Puranas

📜Eternal Stories, Timeless Truths

The word “Purana” in Sanskrit means “ancient” or “old.” But don’t be fooled — the Puranas are not just dusty mythological records. They are living stories, filled with divine wisdom, epic tales, cosmic timelines, and deep philosophy that still speak to modern minds and hearts.

They form the narrative foundation of Hindu culture, spirituality, and imagination.

📚 What Are the Puranas?

The Puranas are a genre of ancient Hindu texts that preserve mythology, cosmology, history, rituals, yoga, philosophy, and devotional stories in the form of stories and dialogues.

There are 18 Mahapuranas (Great Puranas) and many Upa-Puranas (Lesser Puranas).

Each Purana is traditionally structured around five themes (Pancha Lakshana):

  1. Sarga – Creation of the universe
  2. Pratisarga – Secondary creations and recreations
  3. Vamsha – Genealogy of gods and sages
  4. Manvantara – Cycles of time and rulers of the universe
  5. Vamshanucharita – Histories of royal dynasties
